Topic
This article applies to BIG-IP AAM 11.x through 15.x. For information about BIG-IP WebAccelerator, refer to the following articles:

Description
When the BIG-IP system is licensed with BIG-IP AAM, it runs an additional set of processes on top of the standard set of BIG-IP processes. The following table lists the core BIG-IP AAM processes, and indicates the impact to the BIG-IP AAM operation if the process is not running:
Daemon | Description | Impact if not running | Relevant log files |
---|---|---|---|
wamd | The wamd process performs all of the web acceleration according to the policy specified in the application configuration. The wamd processes client requests from TMM, and communicates with the origin web servers. Additionally, it performs the following tasks:
|
BIG-IP AAM will not accelerate HTTP traffic. | /var/log/wa/wamd.log |
datastor | Datastor provides an abstraction layer over large storage systems, giving a unified interface to storage objects for BIG-IP applications on disk. Datastor is the interface to all BIG-IP AAM cached objects. | BIG-IP AAM will not accelerate HTTP traffic. | /var/log/datastor |
dedup_admin | Responsible for deduplication operations. | The deduplication feature will not function. | /var/log/dedup_admin |
mysqld | The MySQL database stores BIG-IP AAM performance report data. Note: This daemon may be shared by other BIG-IP services. |
Performance data will not be logged. BIG-IP AAM will continue to process traffic. | /var/lib/mysql/mysqld.err |
wccpd | Web Cache Communication Protocol (WCCP) process in BIG-IP AAM. The wccpd can be stopped if the WCCP feature is not in use. If wccpd is disabled, the WCCP feature will not function. | The WCCP feature will not function. | /var/log/wccpd.log |
wocd | Manages remote iSession endpoints. | BIG-IP AAM will not accelerate WAN traffic. | /var/log/wocd |
wocplugin | Manages and optimizes CIFS connections. | BIG-IP AAM will continue to accelerate traffic, but will not optimize CIFS connections. | /var/log/wocplugin |
Starting and stopping BIG-IP AAM processes
You can use the command line to manage the BIG-IP AAM processes on the BIG-IP system. To stop, start, or restart all BIG-IP AAM processes, use the following syntax with the bigstart command:
bigstart action process
In this syntax, note the following:
- < action > refers to the action for bigstart, such as stop, start, or restart.
- < process > is the name of the BIG-IP AAM process.
Note: For information about using the bigstart utility, refer to the bigstart man page or K4080: Adding and removing services included in the ‘bigstart’ process.
