Policy Information
The F5 hardware product lifecycle support policy defines the stages of the hardware product lifecycle from initial release through retirement. This policy describes the levels of support available for customers with a purchased Support Agreement. The intent of this policy is to provide consistent documentation that aids customers in planning and preparing for their organization’s support needs.
F5 hardware products progress through two distinct lifecycle phases, Regular Support and Extended Support.

Definitions of Terms
Term | Definition | Product category |
---|---|---|
Product introduction: limited or general availability | Date on which a product is available to customers. Starts the product lifecycle. | All |
End of Sale (EoS) | Date on which F5 stops selling a product. Note: When F5 designates the EoS for a product, refer to its EoL product notice for a complete schedule of important dates for sales availability or support. For more information, refer to K11478: End of Life/End of Sale index. | All |
End of New Software Support (EoNSS) | ● Starting on this date: ◦ A hardware product no longer supports new major or minor versions of applicable software products. ◦ F5 no longer tests whether new major or minor versions of relevant software products run properly on a hardware product. ● This date is two years after End of Sale (EoS), unless F5 communicates a different timeframe. | Hardware |
End of Software Support (EoSS) | ● Starting on this date, F5 no longer provides maintenance or EHF releases to repair or maintain the following: ◦ Confirmed defects on firmware for a designated hardware product ◦ Confirmed defects in software products that run on a designated hardware product ● This date is generally three years after End of Sale (EoS), unless F5 communicates a different timeframe. | Hardware |
End of Software Development (EoSD) | ● Starting on this date, F5 no longer develops maintenance releases for a software product or software product version. F5 does not release any software product fixes, including fixes for bugs or CVEs, using maintenance or EHF releases. | Software |
End of Support Contract Renewal (EoSCR) | ● Starting on this date, F5 does not renew support contracts for hardware products. ● This date is generally six years after End of Sale (EoS), unless F5 communicates a different timeframe. | Hardware |
End of Technical Support (EoTS) | Starting on this date, F5 no longer provides technical support services, such as troubleshooting or configuration advice. Hardware products ● F5 continues to provide technical support and RMA services beyond End of Software Support (EoSS). ● For hardware products, this date typically coincides with End of Life (EoL). Software products ● For software products, this date typically coincides with End of Software Development (EoSD). Service products ● For service products, this date typically coincides with End of Life (EoL). | All |
End of RMA (EoRMA) | ● Starting on this date, F5 neither accepts nor replaces hardware system or component returns. ● This date is generally seven years after End of Sale (EoS), unless F5 communicates a different timeframe. | Hardware |
End of Life (EoL) | The point at which the hardware, software, or service product is no longer supported by F5 in any way. | All |
Regular Support Phase
The Regular Support phase starts when the customer accepts shipment until the End of Software Support (EoSS) date. During the Regular Support phase, the customer receives repair or maintenance of purchased hardware, software, and firmware, troubleshooting help, educational services, etc., as defined in the support contract and depending on the support tier. A hardware product’s EoSS date marks the end of the Regular Support phase and begins the Extended Support phase. Customers should contact their F5 representative or F5 Partner for options to upgrade their systems before the end of the Regular Support phase to keep them up-to-date and secure.
Extended Support Phase
The Extended Support Phase begins immediately after the EoSS date expires and ends with the End of Technical Support (EoTS) date.
During the Extended Support phase, F5 will NOT:
- Provide any of the following: repair or maintenance of software or firmware defects, patches for common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVE), security updates, software fixes (hotfixes), or education services for that specified hardware product.
- Provide a detailed full Failure Analysis (FA) Report.
- Escalate to Engineering Services or Product Development.
During the Extended Support phase, F5 WILL:
- Attempt to answer technical questions, troubleshoot, and isolate problems for the product.
- Provide Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) support as defined in the support contract and depending on the support tier.
- Provide an abbreviated FA Report when deemed necessary by F5.
F5 requires that hardware platforms operate the last applicable Maintenance Release Software (MRS) version at EoSS for the product to receive Extended Support from F5.
For hardware products, unless expressly announced by F5, three (3) years after the EoS date is the default hardware product EoSS date, and four (4) years after the hardware product EoSS date is the default hardware product EoTS and EoRMA dates. Customers may purchase one more year of extended support at the end of their last full year of maintenance agreement before the EoTS date. For example: if the maintenance agreement expires on March 31, 2023, and EoTS is May 1, 2023, the customer can pay for a full year of maintenance (and EoRMA) through March 31, 2024. In this example, no new maintenance agreements can start after May 1, 2023.
F5 reserves the right to change its Product Lifecycle Support Policy at its sole discretion, without notice.
