The tables in this page list the amount of memory and the number of CPU cores allocated to a Virtual Clustered Multiprocessing (vCMP) guest for each of the VIPRION and BIG-IP platforms that support vCMP.
Description
vCMP allows a BIG-IP system to run multiple instances of BIG-IP software on a single hardware platform. The vCMP host (hypervisor) can allocate a specific amount of hardware resources to each vCMP guest (instance). The possible hardware allocations may change between versions.
The following tables list the possible combinations of vCPU and memory allocation for a vCMP guest on various platforms.
BIG-IP 13.0.0 and later
Platform | Available vCPU per slot/appliance | Possible vCPU allocation per guest per slot/appliance | Approximate memory allocated per guest, per slot/appliance based on vCPU allocation (GB)* | Maximum number of guests per slot/appliance |

1vCMP support for the BIG-IP 10200v platform was introduced in BIG-IP 11.3.0 HF5.
2Six vCPUs per vCMP guest are supported starting in BIG-IP 12.1.0 and eight vCPU guests are no longer available starting in BIG-IP 11.4.1 HF3. For more information, refer to K15174: BIG-IP 52xx and 72xx platforms do not allow more than four or six CPUs on vCMP guests..
3A single-core vCPU vCMP guest can only provision the BIG-IP LTM module, the BIG-IP DNS module, or the BIG-IP LTM and BIG-IP DNS module combination.
4Platforms with solid state drives support the high density vCMP feature in BIG-IP 11.4.1 and later. For more information, refer to K14760: High Density vCMP.
5Support for the allocation of up to 20 vCPU cores per guest was added in BIG-IP 11.6.0.
6Support for the BIG-IP i15800 platform is introduced in BIG-IP 12.1.3.1.
Note: Flexible vCPU allocation is available in BIG-IP 11.4.0 and later.
